The aim of the workshop is to hold a group space where we can explore what it feels like to trans(form) our bodies with rope. Rope bondage can be a means to both gender euphoria and dysphoria. Tying your own body is an accessible way to take agency over bodily sensations, which can be a liberating experience for trans people living in a society that restricts our autonomy. How can we use rope to explore the trans experience? What does it mean as trans people to be contained within our bodies? How do we tie ourselves in a way that actually feels good? Can we enjoy being present in our bodies?
This workshop will hopefully bring us to some trans joy, but it can also provoke a lot of other emotion. There will be a 45 minute guided self-tie followed by another hour of open space for continued tying or decompression. There is the option to debrief with (part of) the group. Additionally, there will be someone present in the room who will be there to provide support to anyone who needs it.
In order to create a comfortable container for the group, this workshop is only for people who identify as trans or outside the gender binary. We will not police anyone’s identity at the door, and we ask everyone to be responsible for themselves in entering the space. It is an all-levels workshop and welcome to people who have no prior experience with rope. We will not focus on technique, but rather on sensation and exploration.
Please come dressed in whatever clothes you are comfortable moving in. You are welcome to bring your own ropes and/or a yoga mat or blanket to sit on, but we will also provide materials. The workshop will be taught in English. It is easily adaptable for people with reduced mobility. If you have specific accessibility needs, it helps to let us know ahead of time.
